I have a 3-year old. TV is limited, but I'd like to find some movies that he would enjoy for some movie nights. He's scared of a lot of the disney-type movies where there's an evil character. Little Mermaid, Nemo, Monster Inc. etc are just too much for him. He does like a cute Babar movie, some Pooh, Curious George.

What's with these G movies being so loud and over the top? Cars was way too harsh for him.

Any suggestions?

There is a line of DVD's called "Praise Baby". They are a little like Baby Einstein in that the images shown are pleasing and interesting to very young children/babies, and the background music is Christian music. Nothing harsh, loud, or over-the-top. It's all very soothing.

Try www.christiananswers.net/spotlight for Christian movie reviews. I go here to thoroughly check out any movies before our family watches (not just my kid, myself and my husband too!). I believe there also may be video game and TV show review guides as well, look on that site for links.

The official site for Praise Baby products is www.praisebabycollection.com . I own all of them that are out now and plan on buying any more that they come out with. Even I find the music relaxing while I'm doing housework.

I know that this is really kind of restrictive, but I heard that the actual reccomendations for young children's television time is none at all for children under two and not more than one hour a day broken up into fifteen-minute increments for children older than two. I don't follow this either right now (I limit his viewing but it's difficult since I'm staying with family now and they like to have the TV on almost all day) but I figure I should put this out there for everyone. A little bit won't hurt kids, I think... hours (2 or more) a day is too much obviously, IMO.

Hope this helps... God bless you for wanting to take an active role in making smart decisions about your kids' television consumption!

Almost every Disney movie is going to have a moment of truth based on some challenge or difficulty created by a nemesis. That's part of how the movies teach children to handle those emotions and learn to get past them.

Pooh's Heffalump Movie is probably ok. Maybe the Lizzie McGuire movie -- pretty much anything made by Disney when Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan were child actors for them would be ok.

Veggie Tales? If TV is limited just because of lack of cable etc... You can get Sesame Street on DVD.
