Everytime you work with a computer, it utilizes virtual memory or the so-called RAM. This enables you to open or work faster with the softwares you are using. However, prolonged use of the computer for certain period of time fills up the memory's space. Be it in your habit to right click on the desktop and click refresh. This might help a lot. You may also try to close running programs that your not working with. Better if you can buy RAM to upgrade your computer. This will definitley boost the speed of your computer.

There are only two causes:-
Overheating
The size of the swap file has increased so much that you have less than 20% hard disk free space left or too much of swapping of data from/ to hard disk i.e I/O (Input / Output) reads from your hard disk are on the higher side.
Hence, increase your RAM, unistall unwarranted applications if hard disc free space is less and check your fans inside the cabinet and on the CPU.
