The purpose of pubic hair is to protect you from infections, same thing with hair in our entire body, a shield.

I actually heard this on a talk show. It has to do with keeping the musky smell active ... to enhance sexual stimulation, thereby ensuring procreation of our species. And no, I'm not being vulgar.
Procreation of our species is ( or at least used to be ... lol ) dependent on sexual activity. We're not born with pubic hair and do not get any until we're within breeding age. For the same reason, as we gradually exit our breeding years, we gradually start to lose our pubic hair.
Interesting what you can learn during daytime talk shows these days, isn't it ? LOL

Hairs always act as protective covering... and to trap foreign particles or materials. Likewise in the pubic region, it protects the most sensitive organs of the human body.

Like all other hair on our bodies, it's a protectant against dirt, dust and infection. Back in primal times dirt or dust in the private area would be very bad for health (particularly in men under the foreskin), causing infection and death. Obviously now, there's really no need for it considering we don't live in a desert or dusty situation, as well as actually wearing clothes. However, like some other things, it's a trait we have yet to evolve from and grow to obsoletion.
