Yes, something like a bottle of decent wine, flowers, or a scented candle are a nice touch!

Although it is nice to bring a gift when invited to dinner, it is not considered bad etiquette if you do not bring a gift. It depends on the ocassion and the person. If you do want to bring something, remember to keep this in mind. Not everyone drinks, so think twice before grabbing that bottle of wine. Some women love to entertain and think of this as a gift to YOU so they may be insulted by extravagant shows of appreciation especially with food so be careful not to bring your own homemade pies, cakes etc. A simple "thank you, this was wonderful" is usually enough to show your appreciation.
If it is a more formal dinner or holiday (even with family) a small personal gift to the cook is usually the norm. wine would be acceptable, again, if they drink. A thank you card is appropriate only when you do not know the people very well.
I hope that helps!

I would bring a personal gift to the host/hostess only if it was special occasion like their birthday, or some other special occasion. However, if there is no special occasion, then, if your friend drinks alcohol then why not bring a bottle of wine. Otherwise, you can always mail them a nice little Thank You card (that is always appreciated) a day later or make a quick call to say Thank You and tell them that you plan to invite them to your home for dinner soon.

yes it is good etiquette to bring a gift to your host/hostess.
A bottle of wine, bunch of flowers, or you can ring and ask in advance if they would like you to bring anything in particular if not the flowers and wine should be enough.
Some people take the wine back if they don't have it drunk that night i find it poor taste and bad manners to do so.

Most definitely, usually wine or some fancy desert. Personally I tell all my guests to bring a cash to set in the middle of the table. There's just something about a pile of money that makes me feel loved.

Yes it is good..
They are offering there home, hospitality.
It is very nice and appreciated to give a gift..
even something on a personal use rather than a bottle of wine.
Then they know its coming from the heart rather than just a last minute bottle of wine.

Yes! In fact, it is a big part of my religion (Islam.) It's good to take a gift to someone's house, especially the very first time you go. That's a very thoughtful gesture.

Absolutely, ma'am.
In fact a bottle of wine and some nice flowers would suggest themselves.
Have a nice day.
