The "battery of laws" in the church to which I belong (the Roman Catholic Church) isn't really all that hard to follow.
It does, of course, require a bit of self-discipline and personal responsibility -- two things that have almost become dirty words nowadays.

My friend, I can definately see how what you term as "battery of laws" can be confusing...but here is the thing.
These "laws" are not for your restriction, but rather for your personal and spiritual growth. If they were restrictive, then they would take away your free-will, which is against everything that Christianity stands for. Thus I much rather calling them 'Practices'
These practices are many levels, and not everyone attains all of them. Each and everyone of us has a certain level of spirituality and depending on what level that is, these practices develop in order to push them to the next phase of spiritual growth.
Why, do you ask? Well, its much like raising a child...who of us ever raised a child without disipline, without order and practicing of good habits like brushing teath and being nice to people? So too the church is given the sumbolic name of a spiritual 'Mother' that gives us the practices that keeps us on the path of growth and spiritual maturity.
Another thing...The Lord Christ said "be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect". Now that is one BIG task, and because He is eternal and we are limited, to us that automatically points to a journey of growth and development of the Spirit with Christ.
If you look at these practices, they are only a standardised 'minimum' that one should aspire to reach. For example, tithing...whilst the church teaches us the words of Christ to give 10% of what we have to the poor, it's not a 'membership fee' but a lesson in learning how to give, and once one has mastered that small task, with the grace of God and increased loving furvour, one is then not satisfied with only 10%, but starts to slowly increasing that amount...out of free will and love for God and His people.
Prayer...We may instruucted for example to pray a set of traditional prayers, a few "Lord Have Mercy"s, then go to sleep. After a while, again through the Grace of God, one grows in their love for God, that after training their heart and mind and body to lift their heart to Him during that simple excercise, they naturally desire to go the next step, and increase their prayers by a few more minutes and afew more chapters of the bible...maybe even attend more than one mass...Just because they want to. They have grown that much in God's love, that these basic church practices become only a Beginers guide, and they practice it with furvour plus a whole lot more.
I hope this helps to explain things a little clearer...God bless you my friend.

that is religion... that is made to keep you from feeling good enough to know GOd personally...
personal relationship with God and religion arent the same thing.
religion leads to death... and feeling of failure
i cant do this...
its true you cant succeed fully with out knowing him and who he is... but religion will only hold you back... seek him yaself...
say creator reveal yaself to me fully... and if he leads you to messiah yeshua... jesus... then you know that it had nothing to do with church... but personal relationship.
