Okay something has been bothering me lately. Anyone know how many units these contain (am in the UK):

1 single whiskey and coke say 40%
1 pint of beer say at about 5%

Can't remember the exact %'s so feel free to correct! How do you work out what has more alcohol, my friend believes that the whiskey has more but I believe the beer is easily more perhaps close to double. Please help me settle it, if you say beer 2 whiskey 1.2 that would be good enough no need to get too technical :)

Hello dear,
A glass of white or red wine, a bottle of beer, and a shot of whiskey or other distilled spirits all contain equivalent amounts of alcohol and are they same to a Breathalyzer. A standard drink is:

A 12-ounce bottle or can of regular beer
A 5-ounce glass of wine
A one and 1/2 ounce of 80 proof distilled spirits (either straight or in a mixed drink)

"In the UK there is also a system of 'units', which is often used when talking about alcohol limits for driving. One alcoholic unit is roughly equivalent to half a pint of beer, a glass of wine or a measure of spirits."

The pint of beer has more alcohol.

1 pint = 20 oz
20 x .05 = 1 oz of alcohol

1 oz of whisky x .4 = .4 oz of alcohol

Cheers.
