There seems to be some minor extrator problems on the 7.62x54R because of the rim on that cartridge. The rifle was developed by IZHMASH and based on "proven" sporting rifle Record-CISM. The SV-98 in 7.62X54R has been "field rated" by the Russian Speznatz at 1.15 MOA @ 100 meters distance. The true limiting factor is the ammunition the Russian Military uses for there sniper weapons. The only sniper units that recieve quality ammunition are those of the Spetznatz. Because the performance is not as good as the military would like, there has been several complaints from the head of the military arms and evaluation center in the Russian Military.

It looks like a pretty standard high end sniper rifle and is chambered for the .308 winchester. I don't see anything special about it, you could build something very similar without a lot of dificulty. I agree with the guy above me that the Barrett .50 is the way to go, Barrett even has a new .409 (I think) with a targeting system that will allow 1st shot hits at over 2000 meters and the bullet trajectory is vastly superior to the .50. Now that should be a gun to get!!!

That's a big sniper rifle. Probably an equavalent to the US made M95 sniper rifle. Those things can even hack off people's limbs.
Don't put your trust in the Russians, thier weapons often somehow end up in the wrong hands. Just look at how many of them there are in the hands of extremists.

I dont need a gun like that but if I had the chance to get one I would. Unless it was expensive for that style gun. I have seen some similar style guns made with a lightweight but sturdier plastic. I dont really know much about that type of rifle I normally don't shoot rifles very often.

Nice pics, but let me remind you, before the cold war ended, The main economic source for the Soviet Union was weapons. They have always sold weapons to third world countries. My point is don't believe everything you hear (or read) and only half of what you see.

As fancy as it looks it is my understanding that the M-24 is still more accurate. You can put all the gadgets you want on a gun, but if the barrel isn't up to snuff it still won't do the job.
But whenever discussing sniper rifles, this is the one that should never be left out of the discussion.

Looks like they stole the design for the 50bmg sniper rifle the Army uses when they can't get a Barrett.
Still a nice gun, but I can get one just like it for 3500 bucks.
