I can tell you that people are quite disrespectful of kilt wearers, even total strangers seem to think they have a right to look under your kilt to check whether you are a true Scotsman, they are cultural traditional and show clan membership as hijab shows you belong to a religious sect, but when you set yourself apart from others in your dress you get unwanted attention and reactions whether it be wearing a kilt or a hijab don't you.

I thought it was the niqab that covered the face, sorry if I am confused.

Yes, kilts are worn mainly for Hogmanay celebrations, wedding do's and ceilidh's etc. these days.

Yeah ....there is no written law (religious or otherwise) for either one. They are both worn as garments of personal choice.

well they have one thing in common ... they were both persecuted by others for their choice of clothes ...
the kilt was banned by the English at one point and those who wore it either were imprisoned or sent out of the country ...
we are seeing the same thing repeating with the hijabs and i hope it doesnt go the same way ...
it is sad when culture is lost
people now only wear kilts at wedding .. Scotland has lost its place in the world and became clones like everywhere else.... very sad

i just read some of the comments ...
the kilt was national dress ... not just for military dress code... but it has became that

LMAO.

The former covers the base, while the latter covers the hair.

And you're right, it's niqab that covers the face; not hijab.

And no, hijab is not an optional. It's compulsory for all Muslim women.

The kilt, however, is optional for the Scotsman who doesn't wear it as a uniform.

Have a nice day.

1) hijab does not cover the face... the face covering is optional. hijab means to observe modest dress which for Islam includes hair covering
2) under Islam, hair covering is not optional
3) Regardless, it is a wonderful thing and i thank God everyday that i converted to Islam and the veil is one of the many reasons

peace to all

No. The difference is, the hijab covers the face, which is the means by which an individual is identified. When you can't see someone's eyes, one can feel uncomfortable (same applies to sunglasses).

Kilts, on the other hand, do not conceal identity.

Scottish kilts were originally worn by military officers. A kilt is a UNIFORM worn by people DOING THEIR JOB. They were PAID to wear them - just like policemen are paid to wear a badge.

A hijab is a SYMBOL of DEVOTION TO GOD.

A kilt is worn out of professional alliegance to a military clan.

A hijab is worn out of personal respect and modesty.

The two are totally different.....
