and the tooth has been abcessed...and now when I eat, I find little pieces of the tooth coming out. 4 small pieces so far in the past couple days. The tooth is mostly a dark brown or black color.
Why are there pieces of the tooth and/or filling coming out?
It doesn't hurt either.

An abscessed tooth is usually sensitive or painful. Abscess is usually caused by deep decay or an accident. Abscessed or traumatized (nerve damage) tooth generally requires root canal therapy or extraction. The pieces of tooth that you mention may be that of fillings (3 failed fillings for same tooth by the same dentist?). Beware, as in certain cases an abscess may compromise the immune system. Find a new dentist fast for an attempt to save this tooth.

PLEASE call your dentist. If you have enough tooth left s/he can do a crown to replace your tooth.
If you've had 3 failed fillings I might find a diff dentist.
If it doesn't hurt you need to go to the dentist ASAP!
