There is a very simple test your doctor can order to see if there is blood in your stool. It is a Stool Occult Blood Test. If you are concerned about this, please visit your doctor. S/he will collect, or have you collect, some of your stool. Usually over a three to four day period and send it to the lab to be tested. Blood can be in any stool type. It doesn't have to be red or black. It may or not be visible. Hope that helps.

My dad had a problem along those lines in early 2000 and had slight case of dehydration..
Went to the hospital on boxing day (day after xmas in oz)
and found out he had late stage bowel cancer...

He had it all removed 6wks later (was the size of a babies fist) and was fitted with a Colostomy bag!!

Whatever it is that ur worried about, dont let it slide..My dad eventually told us he had seen blood in the toilet a few times before he mentioned it....
Tell ur doc and get tested please...It will save u alot of stress and worrying!!

Good luck and Take care =)

if it's red it's not actually in the stool it's probably piles. As has already been said blood from further up the passage is black

One of the questions your doctor will ask you will be are there any alteration in you bowel motions ie. diarrhea, constipation. If there has been a change it does not mean you have cancer, it could be irritable bowel syndrome, if there is no change in your motions then it could be haemorrhoid's, polyps or a fissure. either way you need to see your GP

if it s red . it is piles and you may need them seen to as you could get anaemic quite quickly.
if it is black and/ or there is a sweet smell you need to see a doctor asap.
