I think it's best to just let time sort things out. Accept the fact that it's going to hurt and there isn't a whole lot you can do to expediate the process.
There are a few things NOT to do (in my humble opinion)
In no particular order....
1.) Don't try to maintain a relationship with your ex, even as friends. Sure, be civil, but I'd do your best to keep them out of your life for a while.
2.) Don't feel sorry for yourself. A broken heart, whilst sucky, is common. Self-Pity is not helpful. DO surround yourself with supportive people.
3.) DON'T (Whatever you do) go out and get back on the wagon straight away. I think a broken heart is kind of like a sports injury. You have to give it time to heal, then you have work at strengthening it, then when you're pretty certain it's about as healed as it can be, tentatively test it out.
4.) Do any other stupid or obsessive stuff that we all tend to contemplate around this tumultuous time.
AND REMEMBER.....
Those feelings of love can and will exist for someone else one day, just not today.

Concentrate on yourself and do things you have put off doing because you didn't have the time. Find something to do that takes you away from the familiarities of the one you were with.
Convince yourself it was for the better.
In time the hurt will lesson and you will find it easier to meet other people.
Life does go on and you will eventually join in that life. Think of it as one door closing and another opening you have a whole new life to experience.
Look in the mirror and smile at yourself.

I always give myself time... I think of him and still miss him when we just broke up, i dont force myself to forget him or get over him because from experience the opposite ie. i will take an even longer time to get over it, usually happens. gradually i find that i dont thik of him as much as i did, and slowly i start noticing other people around me.
give yourself some time, pal =D

Find someone or something else to fill the void... It could be a friend a hobby or almost anything that you enjoy doing... Just get your mind off of it and think about other things... soon enough you will forget their name...

by hanging out with your friends. there's nothing better than having the support of your friends with you and having a good time with them. as long as you dont keep to yourself all the time and try to be happy with your life is what counts. there's no point in bringing yourself down about it cos it's only gonna make you feel worse

YOU NEED TO TAKE THE TIME TO FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR SELF. FIND IT IN YOUR SELF TO WHY YOU ARE NOT TOGETHER ANY MORE. FIND HAPPIENESS IN THE FACT THAT YOU HAD LOVE, LEARN MORE ABOUT YOUR SELF THIS WILL HELP I SWEAR. AND DON'T START DATING JUST YET CAUSE IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN, LOVE YOU FRIST AND EVERTHING WILL FEEL BETTER. DON'T YOU JUST WISH THEY COULD HAVE YOU THE WAY THE FOUND YOU?
