Everyone has a different conception of what God may be....The more mathematically minded, beleive it to be a higher power....in this respect, the normal theists would almost view this as atheism....
this is what is commonly accepted that issac newton beleived, in a "cosmic force" or higher power....even the way he describes God is based on the laws of motion:
the mover was moved by another thus, and that one by another, until you reach the first mover, which could be said to be God.
Because by mathematical logic...how could things have started moving without a "first mover"?
but this is not the same "definition" of a God that others use....There are some that describe God as an "entity" in space and time that absorbes "souls" to a place of happiness called heaven...Others beleive God is shaped like a person...
What is interesting though, is that all of these perceptions of the "one God" seem to be certain--
yet, none of them, must admit, can know the true God

such things would be arrogance, for to know certainty in the ways of God, would be to KNOW god, and this is impossible, because our brains are too small to understand the greatness of God...
therefore, to claim certainty in such a subject, is to claim in fact, that you do not beleivein God, because no one can know for certain God----remmember : "certainty is reserved for God, and for God alone"..
Therefoer the true way to beleive in God is to doubt....only through doubt can you understand God better and go to the "common" attributes amongst all these perceptions of God.
After all, we are only human, and to have "faith" in the man explanations of God, is irresponsible, for it places faith on the inherent sin of man and his flaws....no human can fully understand God, not even the bible, who was written by humans...
so doubt, seems to be the true way of beleiving in God, because you try to understand what you cannot---it is only through this humility, of not claiming

certainty---but doubting, that you really get to the common attributes to all the perceptions that lead to a better picture of "god"---
but to put faith immidietly on what is man said about God is putting faith on sin and flaw...
faith is reserved for when human doubt and dialogue end, marking the incapacity of humans to understand....
to have faith in one perception and to claim certainty, is to claim arrogance in knowing the ways of God...
certainty is reserved only for God...doubt, is true beleif, for it is the true way to understand God-- faith is left for that which the human mind cannot understand...in acceptance of our insignificane in humility.

webby---to claim certainty in the values of God, is inherently arrogant...do you know God and all that he embodies---the KNOWLEDGE of God?
No, the values were interpreted by humans, but you are right...all of these teachings tend to aproximate certain very clear messages, which is the intuition and voice of God....
what I am saying is that to claim "certainty" in everything of religion (which is man made that explains God) is arrogant and ignorant, because man cannot "know" God.
So humility dictates, that doubt of what is human said about God, is the true beleif...for to claim certainty in your beleif about man said things about God is fallacious, for to claim certainty, in a thing that is inherently beyond man to understand, is arrogant, ignorant and flawed.
Only through doubt, do you TRY to gain an understanding of God.

faith, is reserved for that which you cannot understand...
to beleive anything anybody tells you about God is irresponsible, for it is human knowledge....and human knowldge is incapalbe of knowing God...furthermore, human knowledge is marred by selfish motives, sin, and flawed perceptions...
therefore, to get to the real knowledge of God, at least closer, because youcan never FULLY understand...you doubt and question...because only through thinking critically of man said things and what yo ubeleive...do you reach a more in-depth understanding....
or enlightment...that makes you closer to God, by understanding him...
As said "its when you understand something so well, that what you understand becomes part of you, it becomes part of your identity" This is what I beleive to be what the bible refers to as "being God"---because, we, are God, but to have a flawed perception of him in certainty, is to pay homage to a flawed image in our arrogance of certainty.

Once you question, you beleive...for the motive for questioning, is your firm conviction that something must exist that made the complexities and beauty of our world....if you do not question, you don't beleive, because you assume certainty where you ahve none...(can you explain the complexities?) --

Nickster,
thanks for your kind response...I don't usually encounter people who assert in such a gentlemenly manner..
On your point:
Yes, you say that if you let people have their own conception of God through doubt, then they don't follow the one true God's message..which is in the bible...
what I am saying, is that all man-made explanations of God, CONCIOUSLY, are flawed because they cannot know the entirety of God (the bible was written by humans)...therefoer its really their perceptions and not God, although very close since they witnessed God.
What I am saying is that if you let doubt run its course, with someone who truelly wants to beleive in God.....it will NATURALLY converge onto the conclusion of nature: our neural precepts...and intuition...which I beleive is the voice of God, and nature, the wisdom of millions of years of creation---
God, in this sense, is the voice inside us all...we all have a "bible" in our heads...all we need to do is question...

and we will reach the same perception and conception of God...which is that of the 10 commandments and the embodiment of God.
All you need is the feeling and subconciouslly, God will tell you the truths---no concious reverberation by a human can make up for this "prime connection"--
This is the connection I sincerely feel jesus christ had with God, it was a subconcious private connection with conciousness...
the words of God are deep and fill too many concepts...something human words, I beleive, are too succint to fullfill, and therefore the message gets lost, leading to misinterpretation...
the only real way to reach God, is to doubt and ask questions to the inner self: the neural perscepts of nature and intuitive wisdom (the voice of God)...
and I beleive it will converge to the true conception of God...without the concious interpretation of ancient human text--with millenia making it loose its meaning.
The "one" God is in us, not in a book. we just need to look.

STORY JUNKIE---THANKS FOR ANSWERING!!
you are proof of my meaning....I am not intellectualizing God...I am giving him even a DEEPER meaning---
You see, the bible is a "concious" interpretation of what jesus said...its written in text....and not in the words of God....the words of God are not in human language, and are broad---something our succint language does not capture..so how can we capture the "word of God" in human words in a book?..and with millenia, the translation gets lost even more...
what remains, is the subconcious message of the words of God....the feelings that we can all relate to even today as humans....the stories...the feelings of compassion between fellow man....
so in essence, we are relating and associating to the FEELINGS and intuition as well as nature that is already inside us....
Its only through these mechanisms that we start to understand God. giving the human meaning.
so why not realize this, and question the man said this about God in

question the man things said about God, such as the bible...because they are conciously written by man....and question....but at the same time...ask ourselves....our inner selves the message...
This inne rspeak is what I seriously think Jesus had with God....and through this questioning with self...God will reveal the answers?
the answers from DIFFERENT peoplewill all converge to the same perception---because the words of God are not written anywhere, but in the most sacred of places....the human mind and heart...
all we need to do is look inside for this intuition, and God shall reveal to us the ONE truth--not fully, due to our limitations, but the one that is for us to understand.

When we learn from a wise teacher, we take the lesson in the same concept. The primitive men may not have the same concept about the 010101010000111, but the primary students in informatics have the same concept about it.
The believers of the Messenger of God have the same concept about God. Especially in this age, men are mature to read directly and meditate about the holy verses, and don't have to suffer human interpretations and distortions. The Holy Books are now easily accessible for anyone who sincerely wishes to obtain a precise concept about the One True God.

Dear ionoclass V,
First i want to say that you very well expressed your belief.
Very simply i want to say that while it is true that there are many different perceptions of God, the one thing we have to consider is what is the basis of an individual's formation of who God is.
For those who base their idea of God based upon their own thinking they are in a sense playing God and making themselves God. The person who says my God is tolerant of all things, is following the desires of their own heart.
You are right- we can not search and find God on our own. God has to come to us and what we know about Him can only be revealed by Him.
This is why the Bible makes sense. God came down as a man to be able to relate to us- since we can't relate to Him. And while your bottom line conclusion is that we can only be sure by doubting (sounds wise- but is sort of an oxymoron--doubting does not create faith)... God tells us that He wants us to be certain of our salvation. This is why He gave us the gospel and He gave us the Holy Spirit. In John He tells us that eternal life is to know God and to know Jesus Christ.
God has a purpose and plan for our lives that we can know as we know Him.
So the question of who God is. And who defines who God is, is absolutely vital. Everyone has a perception- but not everyone can be correct -- and being correct matters because souls and people's eternal destinies are at stake.
The Bible also says that the foolishness of God is wiser than the wisdom of man. In other words no matter what sorts of philosophies and arguments we can make the man who does not know God, God calls him foolish... And while different people may have their personal conception of God- if it does not match up with God's own revealtion of Himself- than that person is truly not following the one True God.
Please understand i am not saying there is not a place for questioning and really having a faith that makes sense. (So many people on this website accuse Christians of being "closed minded" or "mindless" but i can tell you that God's revelation of Himself in the Bible is historically, aracheologically, and i have found in life to be truth. There are truths and standards that God expects from me that i don't always like- but that's the point isn't it-- He's God, He makes the rule, i'm just a man and i follow them because i love Him.
Hope this helps.
Kindly,
Nickster

I Will tell you that when Jesus comes to get his children he will be ridding on the clouds because the earth is a sinful place and the Lord want step foot on it because the Lord is pure and sin free. That's why His children will meat him in the air.The dead will go first and then the living and we shall all meat up in the air together.
The Lord works on the inside of you making and molding you to the good ,loving, faithful person that he wants you to be.

Trying to merely intellectualize God has its draw-backs. He satisfies all our aspects, this is my deepest belief. Our physical, our spiritual, our emotional and our intellect.
I'm kind of dumb, although I remember that I did like math when I went to school, but got lost in Algebraic/triginometry equations. Balancing chemical equations was bad enough, taking into consideration the elements' weights. I gave it up and raised 5 brats instead.
I've found, through life, that nothing has wholly and sustainedly satisfied all of me. I senses, always, something missing, something out of joint or out of balance.
The true God, as I've percieved Him, at first, came to me in this analogy: as of a man who owns a great forest or landscape and within this landscape he wishes to play blindman's bluff, and all your life you are blindfolded, he could be walking right beside you and you would never know it.
Again, when I figured He wished to reveal more of Himself to me, He appeared as a being of light, whose properties seem more liquid than air, yet I sensed a great intellect, and a force, (as you say) from which all things come. All our needs are met in Him.

There is a lot to existence to believe in besides a deity. The entire world around you for one. The good of humanity and being proactive for such. Could very easily replace the deity with the universe itself. Even if it's basically a big dark uncaring void, hey it still is what gets to choose if we continue to live or if we die tomorrow.
