As a contractor currently working in Ramadi Iraq,I can say we do a world of support jobs for the military.

Contrary to everyone's biased opinion here we are not the anti Christ the media makes us out to be.Also,I do not work for KBR.

My job as a HMMWV/generator mechanic allows me to do repairs for theCJSOTF community(Special operations). For the first time in my life I can honestly say I love my job. And,yes,I am well paid.I guess according to all of you I should have been happy on the 130 dollars a week for unemployment I was getting after being laid off for the winter at home.Other contractors do laundry, drive trucks full of supplies, run the base MWR,electrical and plumbing, run helo ports and alot of other jobs.If contractors weren't here doing them, you'd have some pissed off solider doing it.They are here freeing up the military to do other jobs.

I've been on both sides of the fence as have 90% of contractors.I am a former US Marine(98-02).Those still in the military that are jealous of our paychecks apparently don't remember when they took their reenlistment oath no one forced them to reup.If you are a first year military member, shut up and pay your dues.Military service has loads of benefits after you EAS and return to civilian life.Just do your time and get out, then you too can be a contractor. If you all just like bitching about it but aren't going to come here, please shut up.

There are three types of Occupation in the Military. Combat Arms, Combat Support, and Combat Service Support.

Combat Arms are the actual trigger pullers. These include Infantry, Cavalry, Armor, Field Artillery, Aviation,... Combat Support are the force multipliers. Communications, Intelligence, Engineers, Military Police... Combat Service Support is the group of occupations that keep everyone working. Food Service, Maintenace, Finance, JAG, Adjutant General (administration)...

The services performed by contractors are generally limited to this third group. Even then not all these are contracted out (such as Finance and Legal) but they are not contracted exclusively. Military and civilian personnel work side by side in Food Service and Maintenace, the two largest groups. Some functions of Engineers are contracted. Also some equipment is either very new or very complicated and so civilians who are experts may be contracted to train, repair and consult.

Some of us joke that in the future an Inafnatry Battalion will consist of 300 civilian contractors and 1 platoon of actual Infantrymen who's primary function will be to keep the contractors safe.

Private military contractors provide services for the military. This is to free up the servicemen to be better deployed for more combat/important roles.
For example, if there is a need to provide a ferry service between 2 points that has no military/security threat, a private bus contractor is hired to drive the servicemen around freeing up precious militay resources and also providing employment for the private sector.

Take all of the money that we should be getting paid. Thats crazy how, Contractors come over here in Iraq and make $100s a yr. and we make $40 to $50 if we are lucky. All they do, is do the same thing we do.

They do a lot like cooking, Laundry Services, Morale and Welfare Program, Gym and much more. Yes they make a lot of money too but also they are away from home and their families for months at a time and them too are out there on the roads exposed to all the dangers like a soldier, just to serve their country too.

They manage small day to day operations for the military, on the basis of contracts arranged with the US military. They earn good money from that.

Many of those operations involve logistics and securing foriegn businessmen and assets and all the like.

Easy.....! charge 10,000USD per toilet, on drummed up costs of higher costs on materials and labor. The military 'embarrassed' for their poor choice of contractor whom was "forced upon them by one Senate/Congress committee as usual, will cover up the whole thing.....will this do?

Overcharge services/products by hundreds of percent in unfair bidding procedures. The contractors and person(s) normally doing the government contracts are not only ripping off the taxpayers of the USA but lining they're pockets with cash, lots of cash.
Aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhh..........
My brain is awash of the corruption in our government etc it makes me sad/angry to see this greed at our expense.
PeaceOut............
