the battery in my awesome archos is a Li-Po battery, or lithium ion polymer, i was wondering if anyone knew if they had the memory effect that the NiMh and NiCd batteries have, like if i keep charging without completly draning, will it start to get the memory effect? look it up in wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_effect
the old remote comtrolled electric cars used to get this, and i was hoping that charging with a charged battery wont cause this effect, as it is $40-$50 to replace the battery on my player. the Archos AV500 30Gig version is the only player to use the Li-Po batteries that i have ever owned, im sure laptops use them too, but will it have the memory effect?

no they don't have battery memory. you can charge them even if they are only half drained.

Daniel is spot on. The electrons substitute from the beneficial plate over to the damaging plate interior old tech batteries - ni cad ( customer electronics ) and lead acid ( autos ) .while those electrons circulate via repeated value discharge cycles they deterate ( kinda' such as you and me becoming old ) and get weaker. nicely the finished discharge and then recharge might nicely be defined this style - I run 6 miles an afternoon daily for 2 years now you question me to due 26 - i'm only conditioned for 6 and that's what I keep in mind. Lead acid don't have a reminiscence result - subsequently the alternator continually charging the battery while in use. on no account drain a lead acid . Killed your automobile battery 6 circumstances in a short volume of time - you would be gettin' a clean automobile battery

Different battery chemistries each have their own 'quirks'. The memory effect is a quirk of Ni-Cd batteries only.

Li-Ion batteries don't have this quirk. When not in use for extended periods, however, Li-Ion, like Ni-Cd, lies to be stored discharged. Lead-Acid batteries are the reverse of this, and like to be stored charged all the time.
