Some religious people say we have free will, but I don't understand how it would be possible. If God is perfect and knows everything He knows what I'm going to do before I'm even a twinkle in my parents eyes, so He knows that I'm going to heaven or hell before I'm even born. If he truly wanted all of us to go to heaven after we die wouldn't he make sure that we were the type of person that would go to heaven? I really don't understand.

Well that's a good Q, I'll try to answer that from Islamic background.
---------------------------------
My answer short:
1) There is nothing considered hidden or not known to ALLAH, ALLAH knows that even before the creation.
2) we are not like Angles or animal world not given the choices to choose, and hence we are rewarded better.
3) Now your self have the choice to embrace Islam as ALLAH says in the holly Quran, if you believe in it you will go to heavens and if not you ( not you your self) will be in Hell.
So, it is your choice, your have enough time to pass???
So,what do you think???

Free will is not the same as fate.

In high school, there are the junkies, the jocks, and the geeks. It's easy to speculate that the junkies will be dead before 30, the jocks might go to college, party and utilize their physical prowess at work, and the geeks will be the professionals and money makers of the future. But then the real end results are not the same.

Neither do I understand it. That's why I look at things from a Calvinist perspective. Total depravity means you get your free will, but it doesn't matter whether God knows or not, it ain't gettin' you to Heaven anyway. You don't have the ability to choose Him, He has to choose you. I know that goes against the grain, but that's the only solution I've found that adequately answers questions like yours.

Yes we do
However, we still can't find the proper definition for it since at the moment freedom is linked with the person's ability to choose whatever future he or she wants and without any entity before him knowing what that person's future is
If you consider the theory of relativity and how it makes time travel possible, then you can see that because of our inability to travel through time we are still limited human beings and are only able to define the concept of free will through our limited time frame.

I believe that free will is much more than what it is defined right now in the books

Dear Pat,

Free will is just the ability to make choices in our lives.

God is not confined by time and being Omniscient (all-knowing) there is not a thing that happens that surprises him. God's heart is for all to know Him but because of free will some choose to accept Him and others choose to reject Him.

There choices do not surprise God and for those who have chosen to reject Him- it does not mean that God did not send messengers to them, or give them opportunities to come to know Him.

God tells us in the Bible the kind of lives he wants us to live- and he reminds us that He created us with the purpose that we would live lives that are to His approval through the forgiveness of His Son Jesus Christ. But He doesn't force us to do that- we have a choice to.

The picture in Revelation 3:20 is that God is knocking on the door of your heart and it's up to you to open the door or ignore his knocking. You've a choice. But it is just that your choice is not a surprise to God.

If you want a reall quick Bible example- think of how many times God sent Moses back to Pharoah (God knew the condition of Pharoah's heart and it is not that God could not have forced or changed Pharoah's heart)-- he gave him multiple opportunities to change his heart... Pharoah chose to harden his heart- and this was not surprising to God.

Hope that helps. Feel free to email me if you need this clarified or have more questions.

Kindly,

Nickster

Just because most religions take away your free will does not mea that you don't have it, and yes God knows but that also does not mean you haven't got fre e will you do for God does not interfear with your choices, he Just wishes that you make the right choice

Just because He knows the choices you will make does not mean He did not give you the free will to make those choices.

We possess it, but we actively defer our choices to the will an ancient myth, God. In simple terms, religion brainwashes people and robs them of free will.

Could you have a wife that truly loves you if she had no choice in the matter ? Would you love your wife if you were forced to do it ? God loves us, he wants us to love Him, you cannot force love.
