Yes, there is counselling with a well trained psychologist. About 6 weeks of cognitive behavioural therapy has been proven to be just as effective as medication but, without the nasty side effects or the rates of relapse when the therapy ends. Always leave medication as a last resort.

Has your doctor prescribed you medication? Best to stick with your meds if so. You may try a few other things like exercise or counseling. Also develop a coping skill. For example, when I feel depressed, I crochet to keep my mind off things. Any kind of arts and crafts is very theraputic. Puzzles, games, anything to keep your hands as well as your mind. I hope that helps.

excersize, counseling. make yourself do activities--for example sign up for a art class or something. you may not want to (b/c the depression) but it will help. many depressed people will do things such as shop by trying to fill the void with tangible objects (clothes, shoes) but really you will feel better filling your time with "experiences" instead. also, you may want to try taking st. john's wort. it's an herbal supplement, a mood enhancer. it helps a lot of people, and you don't need a prescription for it either. surround yourself with good people. perception is reality.

I used to talk to my counselor at school. Sometimes, it does feel good to talk. Eventually, I knew that I had to get emotions out, otherwise I would have probably killed myself. So, I started writing a journal. And I took it everywhere I went. Every chance I got, I would right down evertthing. And it didn't matter how I wrote, because no one would see it except for me. Try it, it might work.
