I am planning to buy a HD LCD Tv, there models which are HD ready and models with integrated tuner. If I buy one with integrated tuner, do I still need a new satellite receiver and dish to watch HD programs? (I have DirectTV)

Yes. You only can get HD reception over the airways with an
integrated HDTV. If you have an HD ready set, you just need
a HDTV tuner which can be supplied by a cable provider or a
satelite provider.

I would suggest getting an HDTV capable of 1080p resolution
because eventually that will be the standard although it's not
that superior to a good 1080i set.

Sony Bravia XBR LCD HDTV is my choice of choices. FYI

Yes. If you plan to watch HD satellite channels, you need to upgrade to a High Definition DirectTV receiver. An HDTV with an integrated ATSC tuner will only pick Over-The-Air digital local channels no satellite signals.

If you have DirecTV, the tuner in the set will make no difference to you since you may not need it. To get HD from DirecTV you have several options. If you have an elliptical dish with 3 LNB receivers, you can receive DirecTV HD progams on premium channels (HBO, Showtime, etc); if you sign up for the HD package they will add HDnet, DiscoveryHD, ESPN-HD, etc. You need an HD receiver (DirecTV has one available called the H10).

What you will not get with this is your local stations in HD. For that you can use the set's built-in tuner and an antenna. If you want the HD local channels from DirecTV, you have to get a larger dish and a different receiver (called the H20, or you can get their DVR, called the HR-20). Call DirecTV to see if they offer local stations in HD in your area. Be aware that your area may have more local HD stations than DirecTV provides; be sure and ask them what stations are included in their service. You can always use the set's tuner to get any stations not carried by DirecTV. Eventually they hope to carry all the locals, but so far only the major network stations (ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox) local affiliates are available.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the DirecTV HD receivers and DVR also have off-the-air tuners. The newer ones are very good. Therefore, if you get DirecTV HD service, you will not need the built-in tuner in your TV set.
