Two popular theories atm...

Firstly, Researchers have discovered that high blood glucose levels, similar to those after eating a big meal, can switch off the brain cells that normally keep us awake and alert.

Also, when you eat, lots of blood travels to the intestinal area to carry nutrients around the body. This is known as shunting. When this occurs, your brain is getting less oxygen.

The first theory is the more credible, with the second theory being the best applied to why you feel cold after eating (less blood to extremities).

it is probably because you
-eat more than you need to (u should stop eating wen u feel 3/4 full)
-could also be from mixing proteins and carbs - u'll find if u eat only protein or only carbs with a side of veggies for example, you probably will feel more energised.
after lunch your digestive system is working hard to digest your meal so this saps energy from your body and makes you tired.
Thats why in many european countries there is a siesta after lunch,to have an afternoon nap and let the 'sleepy'feeling pass before going back to work.
you can also try having a shot of espresso after lunch for a quick 'pick'me up.

Because after you eat your blood sugar levels go up and for some elevated BSLs make them sleepy. I get really sleepy if my BSL are really high or low but then I am a type 1 diabetic. The only thing I could suggest is eat complex carbs. Simple sugars (candy) and basically anything white (Bread, rice, sugar...etc) only give you a quick boost and then let you down so it makes you feel more tired

Because you've satisfied your glutton. Your body needs to chemically break down all the new substances that has been introduced. This takes a lot of energy (that's what makes you tired) after the breakdown, the body turns the food into renewed energy. That's why after you're tired, you usually you feel energized.

It is all the blood goes to stomach to digest the food. Do not walk after eating or sleep, because this makes the heart work overtimes. the best thing is to relax for half an hour on your couch.

Because your body is dealing with digesting the food. Blood flow is slower through the brain.

Because you are full, you're digestive glands are working to digest what you have eaten. So you're body needs to rest to compensate for digestion.
