Shelter dogs have the possibility of being adopted. Pound dogs ususlly have 10 days.
Let me warn you. I got the greatest dog on earth from a humane society shelter, but she had stomach worms and was really sick when I got her. Mo money, mo money, mo money! As they say.
But I love her and now she being taken good care of!

UH hello people they are the same thing, same facility same protocal. Shelter is just better sounding than the pound.......I do rescue and there are wonderful dogs at these facilities. If you get a puppy then you will be the one to train the dog, so it will not have any habits of someone elses animal. If you get an older dog it will most likely be potty trained so you wouldnt have to go through the puppy stage of potty training and them chewing. These dogs are temperment tested that way they are safe to adopt. People who save lives from the pound/shelter make room for more unwanted dogs which gives them a chance to be adopted also. So really you are saving 2 lives and usually dont even know it. good luck ....................

A pound is where a dog is impounded by authorities e.g. caught by a dogcatcher... or taken from owners because ofabuse etc.
A shelter is where a dog is taken by there owners when they dont want them anymore.
At a shelter the dogs MAY be kept alive longer if the person handing them over pays a fee.
Unfortunately the end result is the same, and they are all unwanted dogs.
It seems like you will be a wonderful dog-owner.
I wish you well :)

The term "dogs pound" is old college, term used for generally a kill facility that takes in stray animals. In previous years those have been a real nightmare for any animal to wind up in. They nevertheless exist and are oftentimes operated by utilising the city or county. The words safeguard, rescue and sanctuary are getting used incorrectly plenty. I understand the united kingdom has a great setup to help animals there and that's amazingly nicely prepared during the united kingdom..interior america it extremely is far too consumer-friendly for somebody to declare to be a "rescue" as there is extremely no person governing the operations and care given to animals. "Wolves in sheep's clothing" as a fashion to talk. dogs pound has progressed to apply of term animal safeguard. some are extra humane than others.

I have always adopted from a shelter. Those dogs always seem the best to me. I try to find one that is past their puppy stage and is house broken. It really saves on time and chew toys.

there isn't really a better place of the two to get one. maybe go for the pound though, the dogs there really need someone to save their life.

I think a shelter doesn't kill the animals, but a pound does...I'm not one hundred percent sure, however...
