I'm a musician in college. I've found that since I started band in 6th grade, my hearing has gone down and down, to the point where I probably hear about 50-60% of what I used to hear, and that's an immense amount. I live for music, and I desperately want to get my hearing back. Hearing aids are NOT an option, and pretty much neither is any other medical-related medicines or implants. Does anyone know of any TECHNIQUES that cause or aid in hearing recovery? Anything you know is greatly appreciated. The more details the better. Thanks!

Hearing loss is usually permanent. You cannot regain what hearing you lost unless it caused by something temporary or some medical condition that is treatable. The first thing you need to do is see an ENT to get your ears checked and then have a thorough hearing test done by an Audiologist. They will be able to tell you waht options are available. What I want to know is why are hearing aides NOT an option??? If you need one you should wear one. I have worn hearing aides since I was in about 5th grade and I am not in my 50's. There is nothing wrong with having to wear a hearing aid if you need one. Just because you wear a hearing aid or are hard of hearing you can still do all the things you already enjoy including working with music. After you get your ears checked and hearing checked learn to accept what is going on but follow the advice the doc and audiologist give you.

It depends on where the damage is - I would think an audiologist would have the best idea of where to lead you.

Have you ever heard of Evelyn Glennie, the deaf percussionist? There's a documentary about her called "Touch the Sound" where she discusses how she's learned to "hear" through her body. You might be able to find an amazing way to use your skill and ability as a musician...
