Oxymoron. Religion, since it's most primitive inception has been coupled with war. So to say "Religion of peace" is either a oxymoron or just wishful thinking. No offense to anyone's religous beliefs of course.

No religion comes to mind. Not Islam with what is happening in the Middle East, not Buddhism with the majority of Buddhists I know being less than moral (not by my standards, but by US law standards), and certainly not Christianity.
Being a Christian, I read in the Bible that Jesus said he did not come to bring peace to the world. He came to turn father against son, mother against daughter, and brother against brother. I don't know what happened two thousand years later, but for some reason, the Christians of today seems to think that you have to literally turn the other cheek to live in peace. Turn the other cheek means do not fight evil with evil, not to punk out and let someone abuse you. Jesus was being sarcastic when he said it. He meant that it would be better for you to let the offender strike you again than for you to take revenge because revenge is about pride, not justice. I'm proud that I am NOT in a religion of peace. I would rather be in a religion of influence and change.

When you say religion of peace, the word oxymoron comes to mind. Or paradox, perhaps.

A religion of peace is one that nobody believes in anymore, eg. Norse mythology.

If a religion is RIP, people can LIP. That cult can't kill anybody.

(LIP = "live in peace")
