If you want to get off with a warning there are a couple keys things to do.

1) Have your hands at 10 and 2 on the steering wheel when the officer approaches and don't go reaching across for papers in the glove box until you are asked for it. Anything else makes us nervous.

2) When the officer asks you if you know why they pulled you over....if you know (such as speed) then tell em! "I am really sorry officer, I was (insert here___daydreaming/picking my nose/touching myself/whatever___) and didn't realize I was speeding until I saw you. I am really sorry."

3) Address them as Officer/Trooper/Deputy if you can tell. If you can't Officer will do.

Once you acknowledge your wrong doing and apologize. An officer is usually hard pressed to give you a ticket.

Unless of course it is near the end of the month and I need to write one more ticket to meet my quota and get that free toaster...then all bets are off.....at that point you could throw me a donut and hope it distracts me....bagels work too....or pizza....or chocolate.....or beer.......

If it is night, you want to turn the interior light on in your car, put the keys on the dashboard in the middle so the officer can see it when they approach the vehicle. Have your hands on the steering wheel. These are the first steps, they will put the officer at ease because the first few moments of a traffic stop are rather tense. Be polite. If they ask you why do you think I pulled you over.....be honest. Say "I believe I may have been exceeding the speed limit sir." You can of course follow that with a limited excuse of not knowing what the limit may have been, or that you thought it was ____.

If you have a clean record you should be fine, but you will always run into cops that are going to ticket you no matter what. Just hope that if you do, they give you a non moving violation because of your politeness.

Oh, and if it's during the day and you are wearing sun glasses..make sure you take them off. Some troopers feel that is the greatest form of disrespect.

NEVER EVER EVER EVER...get out of the vehicle unless instructed to by the police officer...for any reason.

Be honest and tell them that you were driving HUA. It means head up *** and it is a term used by police. They wont use it in front of you but they do use it when talking to each other and when talking with dispatch over the radio.

I say this because I am a dispatcher and my father is a police officer and I have been witness to someone telling an officer that and getting off with a warning.

At night turn your dome light on. Keep your hands at ten and two on the steering wheel. No sudden movements. Wait for him to ask you for your drivers license, registration, and proof of insurance.

IF you have a concealed permit hand them the permit with your drivers license if you are in a must inform state.

Remember keep you hands on the steering wheel. And be polite. If you get a ticket you get a ticket. The officer is just doing his job and they aren't going to stop you if they don't have probable cause.

Politeness is always good!
Be willing to assist and answer questions Calmly-Never patronize!
Come across as Being Sorry for Your actions and accept what is said to you!
You may possibly get a Polite ticking-off rather than a Ticket!

Stay calm, if it is your first offence and neither you or the cop is a A$$ hole you should be fine. Just do what he tells you, if were not to high over tell him that you just made a mistake or somthing.

Give him/her those sad puppy dog eyes, the ones that will make anyone want to take you home with them, and then say thank you.

Cry. If you make an embarrassing enough scene, there's a good chance they'll let you go with a warning. "Oh, my God, my boyfriend will be so angry with me when he finds out I got a ticket!" I know women who have done this. Bet it would work twice as well for a guy.

Just tell the cop you voted for Bush and hate Democrats. If in California talk about what a wonderful governor da Schwartz is.

Spit in his face! That always makes them laugh... but seriously, there's not a whole lot you can do. Just be nice and do what he/she says. Don't argue with them, or whine, or complain. Maybe apologize for speeding.

get out of the car, run around wildly in circles, and scream like a little girl. Always works for me.

Now... where did I put that bail money?
