Why wouldn't I be happy?

Are you happy with your decision to believe in god?

I have a sense of self. I rely on myself to make things happen, to take responsibility for my actions and it's a burden that was relieved so long ago. Honestly, the concept of original sin and trying to live an almost impossible life to please a god is just too much to bear.

Yes, I'm happy with my decision. I'm an ex-christian, and when I did believer in God, I would think about it a lot and pray to him when in times of doubt and need. But all prayer ever did was make me feel desperate and depressed and distract me from finding practical solutions to my problems. And the more I thought about God, as I got older, I came to the conclusion that either God isn't there or he doesn't care about us. In my experience, figuring out life and solving my problems myself works a lot better than outsourcing the responsibility to someone that may or may not be there.

In my younger days I had a terrible time dealing with depression, but I'm afraid it was medication and therapy that got me through it. Not God. I have no problem admitting it would be nice to be able to blame my problems on God or use him to comfort myself when I'm down, but I can't because he's not there.

On the flip side though, there is no feeling in the world like accomplishing your goals and knowing you did it all on your own. So to you my friend, I can honestly say, I've never been happier.

Simply in a word dear, Yes. Being as there is no god who else would one look toward but oneself to find happiness.

Most of the time. I would be far less happy if I looked to god for happiness.

Absolutely, because I can justify it on logic and on the evidence. I'm a scientist; religion presupposes supernatural actions, while science prohibits them. Having never encountered anything that could not be explained as a natural process, I have no need of, or use for, supernatural explanations for anything.
