Do I say poor under 25,000?

Poor sounds judgemental. If there is a government benchmark for their circumstance, maybe cite that. i.e. below the poverty level for a family of six, or, in the lower quartile for the regional household income

In the case study you need to mention the general socioeconomic status of your example. This means, how much money does the family make in reference to the rest of the community. Are they what would be considered , upper classes, middle class or llower class. A family making 30K in Appalachia would be doing really well, that same family and income in NYC would be disaster. How does that socioeconomic standing affect the child. What benefits him, what is a detriment?
