Lol. Don't you get a kick outta it, though?
All of mines, through out my life, have done it. I know of many friends with cats that do the same; Its near fascinating to them, it seems.
I'm sure there's a sense of "marking" the box(es) once they're cleaned. Like saying..."Hey, thats mine! Get away!". Ya know?
And when you consider it, who doesn't want a fresh poop box to use? Its clean, smells great and the litter is easy to move around. I know I'm particularly happy when I clean my bathrooms. I usually head straight for a shower when I do.
Anyways, I think most do it. At least use it directly after a cleaning.

When I scoop, my cat will try to knock the scooper and the poop will fall right back into the litter box and she quickly buries it so lucky you if they enjoy it. When I completely wash it out she will get very angry and leave the room and not come back and I have to pick her up to put her in the litter box to show that the litter is clean and she will rearrange it but otherwise... she's not fond of me when I do it.

I have a couple of cats that do. They watch me change it and then jump in and play in it. I've never quite understood why. I understand being the first to pee in it or mark it, but mine just seem to want to play in fresh litter. Strange ones, I know.

Well usually cats refer to their litter box as their terrortary. Well u shouldn't have changed his box as your cat feels comfortable with the first one. One thing: they hate changing of bathroom habits or places. Trt taking away the new box and continue using the old box. For cleaning, you may want to clean his box when he is not around the area.

I am convinced all cats do this! Or mabey it's just males. I have two and it seems like a battle to see who is going to make it in first when I'm done cleaning!! I thought my boys were just wierdos, but then I was discussing it with a group of friends and three others said all of their's do the same!!

Cats are very territorial and they hurry to the litter box to make sure it's been marked as theirs. I have 6 (yes, six!) cats and there's always competition as to who gets to use the clean boxes first. And, yes, they watch me while I change them!

Both of mine do. It's funny, but the male cat (Festus) will use the clean box even if he had used it right before I cleaned it out. Never fails.

Mine always watch too and as soon as it's cleaned, one of them gets in there. It's like I've picked the most inopportune time because they have to go NOW or sometimes I think they are "supervising" the job!

My cat does the same thing! He watches and purrs while I change his litter and then when I am finished, he rearranges it just how he likes it! Strange....
