You should follow your doctor's and pharmacist's directions. SR and XL are both forms of extended release tablets but they have different durations and taking them at the wrong times could put too much drug in your system for a while and then leave you high and dry. Often docs will prescribe SR two-three times a day versus XL once daily (or maybe in your case your doc wants you to take it twice daily). XL has a longer extended release.

Always check with a pharmacist if you have questions before taking a medicine, but it's probably safest to follow the instructions on the label.

Just so you know, you can get Wellbutrin XL in 300 mg tablets. It is generally taken once a day (unlike the SR formula that is taken twice daily.)
The difference you are asking about is 100 mg a day of bupropion, the active ingredient in both medications. You are going from 200 to 300 mg.
Just make sure you are following your doctors instructions and any questions and concerns you have should be addressed to him/her. Do not hesitate to communicate clearly with the doctor.

How did you doctor prescribe the medication? If he ordered it to be taken twice a day then taking two in the morning is NOT ok. When a medication is prescribed a certain number of times per day that is to give you better coverage. Follow the directions that are on the label of the medication as this tells you HOW the doctor wanted you to take this medication.
