I know for sure that I can't drink alcohol while on the Motrin I've been taking. But what if I switched to Tylenol 1's for the pain? (Had a tooth removed). I'm going to an event that I'd really like to drink at.

alcohol doesn't mix well with any pain reliever.

the reason for this was partially explained by another person earlier. alchol and the tylenol both have to pass through your liver before being absorbed by your body. since the alcohol is in liquid form-it passes through your liver much faster then the tylenol, which has to be broken down by your stomach first.

since your liver is already using most of it's resources to process the alcohol, the tylenol isn't processed correctly, overloading your liver which can cause it serious damage or complete failure (think of it has an overdose for your liver). this can also lead to you absorbing too much of the tylenol b/c your liver is unable to flush out the unecessary amount that your body doesn't need.

if you are in enough pain to where you still need to use painkillers (over the counter or not), i would avoid alcohol until you are feeling better. alcohol also slows down the healing process which means it will take your mouth longer to heal and since alcohol contains alot of sugar-you run the risk of getting extra bacteria and possibly an infection where you had the tooth removed

Since Tylenol 1 contains about 5mg of codeine its not a good idea to mix it with alcohol. I would suggest not drinking alcohol with either medication. If you want to have a few drinks just don't take any medication a few hours before and after drinking.

When you drink your liver filters the alcohol from your body. This process takes up most of your liver function and the more you drink the more your liver is doing. When you take Tylenol or other pain relievers like it they too have to be filtered by your liver. But since your liver will be too busy filtering the alcohol it wont process the Tylenol like it should which can cause you liver damage and damage to other parts of your body.

They say DO NOT drink alcohol while taking this medication for a reason and the reason is not to be a bummer. So listen to the warning on the bottle and do not drink while taking the medication.

You have to choose the risk you want to live with.
You CAN drink alcohol on Motrin, but in increases the chance of stomach irritation (both will upset your stomach, so together it is more likely). Tylenol taken with alcohol puts excessive strain on your liver. So that is the risk with that.
If Motrin has never bothered your stomach before, I would suggest sticking with the Motrin. The liver issue is probably the bigger risk.

the best rule of thumb is don't drink if you are taking meds. tylenol and alcohol can effect the liver while moltrin and alcohol can really tear your stomach up.

You can drink if you take motrin but don't drink if you take any tylenol product as this is very hard on your liver.

Ask your dentist. But I think the answerer is no. Both have an effect of your central nervous system.
