What I mean is do you really think that you are going to convince anyone to change their mind either way? I grew up going to church, stopped, decided God did not exist, changed my mind, but at no time have I hung around like people on this forum being rude and sarcastic and down right mean, Of course some of it IS pretty funny. Oh never mind, believe whatever you want to believe and I will do the same.

why would i want to change anyone's mind? if i were a jehovah's witness, then it would be part of my spiritual job, wouldn't it? you sound like you're venting and maybe you're angry--perhaps you should check it out and see what's bothering you about this forum. Peace

Where are we? Are we in:
(a) your home or church, or
(b) a public space, government or school?

If we were in (a), then I'm invading your privacy. Guess what, charlie: we're talking in place (b). If you don't like hearing views that disagree from yours, you can leave. This isn't beliefnet or other christians sites that censor those who disagree with themselves.

Second: Do you want religion to be established in:
(a) your home or church, or
(b) a public space, government or school?

If you want religion to be permitted in (a) and ONLY in (a), then you wouldn't have a problem with atheists and agnostics discussing it. More likely, you want religion forcibly put in (b) so your particular myth can be put into law. Whether it's the religious reich in the US, the Taliban in Afghanistan, or the communists in China, forcing one ideology onto all people is wrong.

There are two types of people in this world:
1. Those who respect others views and don't force others to change.
2. Those who don't respect others views and do force them to change.

Atheists, with the exception of communist nutball governments, are more likely to be type 1 than type 2. The religious, even the ones who don't kill, almost always fit into type 2; only rarities like the B'ahai or unitarians are type 1.

A secular society is not an atheist society: it respects all religious views. A religious or dictatorial society will NEVER respect views that it disagrees with. If you have a problem with that, then undoubtedly you have no respect for others' views.

There is no-one here that can change anyone mind the only one who can do that is God Himself, and believe me he can do just that by having someone place the word of God on someone else heart. I know because
the only thing i had know about god was from Sunday school, But then my Mother come over to God and started praying for me, How i use to give her a hard time about going all Churchy, and all Religion. and every time she would send a letter she would all say May God bless you, So she kept on praying and believing and it has happened i love the Lord now
May Jesus place his love on your heart today

I don't argue about god. I answer questions. Yes I do hope that somehow I will cause someone to at least THINK. I do not hate christians but I have little respect for most of them. They do hate me and my kind. I truly believe that the world would be a better place without religion. If only we could stop looking to the heavens for help and start doing things to help ourselves. Imagine!

It's called the "Religion and Spiriatuality" forum. As astonishing as this might seem to you, Christians do not have a monopoly on spirituality or religion. There are plenty of other religions out there besides your own. And there are non-religious who may actually have a few things to say as well.

Just because I am not a believer does not mean I cannot apreciate a good intelligent discussion about theology. I have many religious friends and have discussions about god with them. I do agree with you that there is often too much hostility but it comes from beleivers and non alike.

I didn't get draw to this section by my own intentions and looking to convince anyone of anything. I got draw here by seeing questions turn up on the main page that were asking and talking about us. Some of them pretty nasty to. So, for any of those that don't like us here, they only have themselves to blame. I didn't even look here until then.

For me, it isn't about changing anyone's mind. I believe that there is a very visible line between the rational and the faithful. I am here to let the faithful know that there are those out there who are going to fight them tooth-and-nail to keep them from completely destroying humanity. I'm here to let the faithful know that there are those who will not be pushed aside and who will not let their rights be stripped from them without a fight.

This is not the God section and believers don't have a monopoly on the Religion/Spirituality section. How boring it would be in here if we all believed the same

It goes both ways. I keep reading "you idiots are believing in fairies" from the one extreme side and "you're going to hell because your beliefs are wrong" from the polar end.
I agree with you. It's stupid to argue because nobody is convincing anyone of anything except giving further evidence to the other side that they are irrational mules.
