It makes you wonder doesn't it. My theory is that if you take something out of the freezer, such as crumpets or muffins, and put them straight into the toaster, without thawing them first, then this setting will be the one you use to cook/brown them. Only a theory though. I haven't tried this at home.I have heard that bread, crumpets, muffins can be used straight from the freezer to the toaster!! Then again, maybe some people do eat burnt toast!!

If the bread or whatever you are toasting has a high moisture content it takes longer to toast.
also over time the filament in the toaster wears out and you have to turn it up to get the same level of toasty-ness
that you were previously accustomed to....but that could just be my hello kitty toaster...lol!

I think that is the setting for Texas Toast because it's so thick -
but yeah - A thinner slice of bread is carbonized

maybe for a bagel
