this is the first time my silky has sat on eggs since I've had her. I went out and noticed she keeps pecking nastily at the first couple of chicks that have hatched and throwing them out of nest - is it possible that she doesn't like chicks after all??
please help, she has 10 eggs to go

I've had that happen before. Take the hatched chicks away from her for now while the rest are hatching. Keep them warm under a lamp. When the eggs have finished hatching and she is resting quietly in her nest, gently slide the babies under her (it needs to be fairly dark so she doesn't get up). Hopefully by morning she will be bonded with them.

Take them away ASAP, Silkies have skulls that expose the brain so if they get pecked hard enough they can become brain damaged and die, my silkie hen didn't like my new babies niether, they will do fine on their own i have to now that are just fine as long as they have eachother to cluck to. Good Luck! as soon as the other eggs hatch take them and put them in a brooder, you can make one of these buy just putting a 75 watt bulb over a cardboard box with some paper towels the reason for the paper towls is so they can get up, if you put them on a slippery surface they could devolope spraddle leg, and you don't want that. Good Luck if you need anymore help just e-mail!

well, has she ever been a mother before? She may realize that these "intruders" entered into her precious nest. If so then you should take her away for a little bit (of course putting the eggs in an incubater) and if she feels seperation anxiety, then expose her to young chicks. If all els fails, talk to a doc about this . . .

Good Luck with your baby Chicks!! :_)

She is probably doing this because you may have touched them at birth and the parents don't like this and the chick becomes an out cast because it's not the right smell for it to have. I know from experience cause I Did this and the father ended up killing it, If you have any other adult chickens they might take it and look after it
