A puppy broker is the person who drives from puppy mill to puppy mill, collecting the best looking, the most potential healthy, pups. They take these pups to their home or some facility, clean them up and deliver them to pet stores for resale.

These are people who, IMO, have no heart, no soul. They can go to places where dogs live their lives out in tiny cages, filled with their own feces, with piles of dead dogs behind the barns the dogs are quartered in. They are somehow able to look at the parents of the pups they take, parents who are obviously not treated well, who are in fact suffering.

Yet they continue the parents' suffering by purchasing a few of the offspring, thus ensuring the owner of the mill will breed them yet again.

Please, everyone, DO NOT patronize pet stores that sell puppies. This makes YOU another person who causes yet another litter to be born of these suffering parents.

(there are hundreds of links like the two above you can read by simply typing in 'puppy mill' on any search engine)

EDITED to say: Douglas...There are two CKC organizations. The one I believe you refer to is the Continental Kennel Club. This organization, IMO, is not a good one. They started up a few years ago and seem to register any old dog that someone with a few bucks wants to get a piece of paper saying they are 'pure bred'.

I don't know if it was a coincidence or intentional that they use the same initials as the very reputable Canadian Kennel Club (aka CKC). The Canadian Kennel Club is the equivalent of AKC. A dog registered with this organization has to meet the same standards of lineage as AKC requires.

Oh yes there is. Pretty sick isn't it? The puppy mills sell the pups for around $200, the broker sells them for $500-1000 and then the pet shops sell the puppies for $1500-2000. And the new owner gets an 8 or 9 week old puppy not even thinking about the fact that that baby was ripped from her home at a mere 4 or 5 weeks old. Forced to live on normal food when she should still be nursing. Absolutely disgusting what we do.....

Yes, and they are people you should steer clear of. They keep puppy mills in business and buy the puppies and sell them to pet shops where someone falls in love with a puppy and brings it home and over the next 5 years endures some of the worst heartache ever because their puppy has been sick, bone and joint problems, and finally something that forces the owner to have to put it down. Brokers and puppy mills have no conscience and should in no way be trusted as a source of a healthy puppy.

Yes and these people usually have no scruples. They buy from puppy farms. The Hunt Corporation (not the food one) is one of the major puppy brokerages in the US. The process thousands upon thousands of animals. They pay the puppy mills pennies on the dollar compaired to what they sell them to pet stores. And that is why puppy mills conditions are deplorable because they have to deal in volume, not quality. Puppy brokers should be outlawed.

yes
this is somebody who buys pups cheap and resells them, at a profit of course, to somebody who is looking for a certain breed of dog....(or to pet stores)
typically the pups come from puppy mills... (no reputable breeder would EVER sell to a broker)

NEVER NEVER buy from a broker or pet store
