Yes, allergy to Tylenol or papacetamol is actually quite common. Most common symptoms include rashes and swelling especially around the eyes and lips. It may also present as vomitting, diarhoea and other gastrointestinal problems. In very severe cases, the person may even have constricted airway and cannot breath. Immediate attention should be seeked.
Its also good to note that people who are allergic to paracetamol may also be allergic to other pain killers/fever medication. Best to consult your pharmacist or dr before taking them.

Yes, you can be.

People who have known allergies or asthma may be at an increased risk for a reaction from any new medication. The physician should always know a patient's allergy history. Signs of an allergic reaction are rash, hives, swelling and difficulty breathing. Of course, a person should not take acetaminophen if there has been a previous reaction to this or a similar drug.

Adverse reactions can occur with any drug, even over-the-counter medications. Some of these are mild such as a stomach upset, which may be avoided by taking the medication with food. Minor reactions may go away on their own but, if they persist, contact the physician. For major reactions, the patient should contact the physician immediately.

For acetaminophen, the following are the observed side effects:

Minor:

* rash
* hives
* itching

Major:

* decreased urine volume
* difficult urination
* bloody urine
* weakness
* fever
* sore throat
* abnormal bleeding or bruising
* yellow color to skin or eye

We get drug seekers in the hospital who claim to be allergic to Tylenol because they want us to whip out the big guns like the morphine and dilaudid.
They claim to be allergic to Darvocet, Ultram, Tylenol with Codeine, Percocet, Percodan, Ketorolac, Aspirin, etc. because they want the good drugs. You can always tell a drug seeker because they have an allergy list 20 drugs long because they want their drug of choice.
