I have a tattoo of roses braided around the ankle. It did not really hurt. Before she gets the tattoo, she should really think about it. I have three. Two on the ankle and the other of braided roses around my arm. I regret them now because working in a business and going into meetings and such, I have to be covered. Even though you are not supposed to be discriminated against, unfortunately, many bosses do. Also, make sure she goes to a tattoo artist that is good and respectable.
Good luck.

Yes, it will hurt. Don't let any one tell you (or her) otherwise. It is a series of needles repeatedly injecting a foreign substance under the skin. And although getting inked hurts ANYWHERE, there are places that are more tender than others. Frankly, I've been in more pain getting tattooed in soft tissue areas: on my shoulders near the armpit, near ribs, places like that. Getting both of my ankles done (and they're both nearly completely covered) was some of the less painful places to get work done.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.
So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.
Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.
A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.
Heal your ankle fully & fast?

I have an anklet done and there were some areas that it didn't hurt persay but you knew something was going on. The back of my ankle hurt like a witch.
Pain varies for each person though. For most your endorphines kick in to make it tolerable.
As with all tattoos, make sure you really want it first.

The closer to the bone you get the more painful it is,all she has to remember is that it's only gona take about 15mins then it's over,it's not pleasent but she will love it once it's done,i've got 6 tattoo's & have 2 cover up's (8 in total) & i'd still have another, just tell her to grit her teeth & think of somthing she'd rather be doing,it works for me.

I have a tattoo over that exact part of my body. it actually hurt more over the fleshy part behind the malleoluses (the sticking out bones) and the achilles tendon. it doesn't hurt all that much - after the first couple minutes it gets more annoying than painful.

Depends. For the most part no, but when they get to the back of the ankle, near the heel, it will start to hurt. But in the long run no.

Yes, the less fleshy the area, the more pain involved. The good thing is it's a small area for a tat.
