I was just wondering how I could get my car to be faster without sacrificing MPG. I was looking on ebay and saw these chips that they say increase MPG and add horsepower. They run about 25 bucks or less and they say they just plug right in to your car. They say they are safe. Do they do what they claim to do or can they damage my car. I know it's not going to be a race car but I just want to unlock my engines potential (GM 3800 SERIES II V6 ). Is there anybody who has experience with the performance chips they sell on ebay? Or anybody who can tell me an inexpensive and safe way to get more performance out of my car? Or someone who can explain the pros and cons of these chips.

1. Get the Supercharger off another series II motor. Really, it would be best if you swapped the entire drivetrain, but the SC, intake manifold, oil lines, and ECU should be all you need. It will consume more fuel, but the 3800 is one of those engines that likes Superchargers. With a properly built SC install your Buick CAN be a race car.

2. The $25 eBay "chips" do NOT work. They are just a resistor in a box that replaces the IAT sensor and tricks your engine into thinking it's 0 degrees out, which richens the fuel mixture. First, the rich a/f ratio won't do anything for performance. Unless you are flowing significantly more air, you don't need more fuel. Second, when the o2 sensors tell the engine "hey, you're running rich," it'll toss out the IAT reading, go back to the standard fuel mix, and throw an engine code.

3. The only way to make a car go faster without making it burn more fuel is to make it lighter. That means, use lighter parts : fiberglass fenders/ hood, lightened wheels, racing seat; or pull stuff out: ditch the interior, ac system, radio. Every 10 lbs is comparible to gaining 1hp, give or take.

Increase the amount of air coming into the engine. Hi flow air filter, away from the engine. (cold air box)Then a performance exhaust system. (Full, free flowing). And the computer chip will help. Have a fun day.

Put an after market carb on it. you should get about 100 mpg after that. And you could probably do the 1/4 in about 6.5 secs.
