I am graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in May 2007 and have no idea what I really want to do. I originally wanted to go to Med School, but my advisor says that my GPA is not high enough. I graduate from college in May 2007, and have been selling cars for the last three years to get through college. If I do not pursue a career that is somewhat medically related, I would really like to do something that will mix business and medicine together because I love both areas.

Then you should go on to get at least your Masters. In todays world you need all you can get, and that doesn't mean settling for a Bachelors. You will make more money over time selling cars than you will doing anything related to your field. I promise you that. I wouldn't listen to your advisor, there are many things one can do to circumnavigate the world of getting into med schools. Who is he/she to say you can't do something!!? Email me and we'll talk, good luck, Jack

GPAs are not the only thing considered when it comes to med schools. MCATs, volunteer work in some area of the medical field, research, having been published, having a well-rounded life -- these are things that contribute greatly to being granted an interview when applications are being reviewed by the admissions committee. If you want to be a doctor, don't let your academic advisor discourage you. The best doctors didn't always get the best grades. Go for it!

Well, first of all let me say congratulations on your hard work. Personally, with all due respect to your advisor, if you want to go to medical school you can do it. The key to getting into medical school is your MCATs. I would suggest talking to someone that is in med school or maybe an admissions person from a medical school to find out the requirements.

The bottom line, don't take no for an answer, if you want to be a doctor then you can do it. Get a second opinion. although, if you are wanting to vary your career a bit; you may consider pharmacy, nursing, counseling, or maybe research.

I sure hope that you do realize your dreams, no matter what just do what makes you happy.

i know of 3 people who grad with a BS in biology. One is a stay at home mom who has never worked. One is a salesman. One is now in nursing school because she could not get in med school. You can go back and get a teaching certificate and teach school. Perhaps you could get a job as a drug rep for one of the major drug companies. They are always wanting to hire young energetic smart people. They visit Dr's offices and hospitals to promote new medications. Best wishes.
