There are some conflicts on which needs more holes on the shakers. Anyway check on the holes if there is written S (salt) or P (pepper); otherwise feel free to go with the flow and do whatever suits you.♥

Salt 2 pepper 3. Pepper comes out slower so it needs more holes.

Sorry, that's backwards from what I was taught! Pepper gets the two hole shaker, so we do not drown our food accidentally with pepper.
I have a salt and pepper shaker pair labeled as such, and the pepper one has less holes.
