Because they don't have the patience that mothers have. Plain and simple. When a woman gives birth, not only does something leave her body, but she also gains a lot. One of the things that she gains is patience. All of a sudden we can tolerate a thousand times more than we could have before. It's easier for us to relax, take a deep breath, and stay calm with a crying baby, or sick child, than it is for a man to do it.
Also, like others have said, men get frustrated when they can't fix something. They feel the need to fix things when they're not right, and when they can't help a child get/feel better, they get frustrated. It's normal, and there's nothing wrong with it. That's why God made mothers.

Most men (not just fathers) seem to get frustrated with sick children because they were taught to "suck it up" and are to the point where they don't remember how bad they felt when they were sick as little kids. Most men were also taught that it's not okay for boys to cry so when children do, whether they're boys or girls, it grates on their nerves. (But if you've ever taken care of a grown man when he's sick, he needs more attention than the kids do and he whines more too!!!) LOL

Some men can't handle being nurturing. These are the same fathers who leave most of the child care to the mom even on healthy days. They often turn into big babies themselves when sick. What they need is a lesson in compassion and parenting skills. Unfortunately, this kind of father will probably never get the idea through his thick skull that children are helpless and need adults to care for them.

They just can show their concerns as well as women and they are not raised to nurture as a girl is. Children tend to be crankier and more demanding when they are sick and this alone can stress even the best of parents, so don't be too hard on him. Just try to express how you feel and help him to adjust.

Some men get right down angry when their child is sick. For one it may be the way they show concern. For another, men don't like to have to deal with unpleasant situations and have their schedules and habits interrupted. That's what I've seen in the men I've know, but I don't believe they are all that way.

Because sick kids are annoying. :) I get frustrated with my sick kids, especially in the middle of the night. But, since I'm the grown-up, I suck it up. My husband is great when our kids are sick--he even cleans up barf and diarrhea. He worse when they are well and annoying than when they are sick.

they also get frustrated when the mother is sick. my huband is a terrible nurse.
But he is a terrific handiman. He can fix up any problem with the house, but he can't fix a problem within the house. It makes him feel helpless.
