Is it turning over or not doing anything ?
You probable don't need a schematic you need a trouble shooting guide.

For the starting system, you'll have a battery cable on one side of the solenoid and the starter cable on the other. To test the solenoid, just use a short jumper wire from the positive side of the battery to the small post on the front of the solenoid (this should have a wire connected to it, it goes to your ignition switch).
If the starter turns over then you know the starter and solenoid are OK. If not, try connecting the battery cables together, if the starter turns over, it's the Solenoid or Ignition switch or fuse. You should also check to make sure you have the coil hooked up.
As for the charging system, you should have a flat plug that goes to the Volt regulator, the wires from there go to the battery, alternator and the dash (ignition and gauge). As for which wire goes where, you'll need a manual that shows the schematic. Fords will run without the alternator, the circuit must be connected though.
BTW don't bother with a Chilton manual, I used one once when I couldn't get a heater core out, the manual said to "remove heater core".........I knew that!

yup with that old of horse, the insulation on the spark-plug wires , distributor cap, could all have deteriorated, If I remember right the solenoid for the starter is on the fender well, so it is easy to get at. Do this, place the car in a very dark place in park of course (at night is preferable) have someone crank the starter, look for tiny blue arcs in the engine area, then spot it with a flash light. that might give you the source of the problem.

If it is original I would replace the point,s and condenser they are bad to go out and if it,is a V8 set your points on .17 with a filler Gage and check your distributor cap and see if it has any crack,s or moisture it you may need to be replaced to . Good Luck!

go on line and look into mustang clubs and blogs they have lots of info and you may pick up on where to find the info,i use tbird registry and the tbirb ranch for that info for my 67 bird,you may have luck in the mustang sites

i own a repair shop,and there's not enough room here to explain all this to you ,,what you need is a good repair manual on this car,and it will help you more than i can on the wiring,that's hard to explain on here ,how to wire one needs to come from a manual,,good luck i hope this help,s.
