It use to be thought that is something was wrong with a person, such as they were born blind that is was because of sin. The sins of the fathers are brought down upon the sons to the 4th generation. It was thought of as a punishment from God. Jesus did not agree with this idea.

The whole bible is online, just find it and do a search of the bible. It probably means that the bad things parents do will eventually come back to haunt the kids in some way.

17 "Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you. 18 You show love to thousands but bring the punishment for the fathers' sins into the laps of their children after them. O great and powerful God, whose name is the LORD Almighty, 19 great are your purposes and mighty are your deeds. Your eyes are open to all the ways of men; you reward everyone according to his conduct and as his deeds deserve.

Exodus 20

.5 You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me.6 But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those* who love me and obey my commands.

Kay K,
Try Psalm 37.

I think that it means what it says.

A reference that I would give as to the interpretation of it would be in Proverbs, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom."

And then also; The Earth is the Lord's and everything in it. (paraphrase)

You have to trust Him to do what He says He will do. That's basic Christianity.

i guess if it was a curse. cause the opposite of a curse is a blessing and remember when abraham was blessed and said that his generation would recieve the blessing so i guess a curse could be passed on.... But you might want to check Gospel.net and type in a keyword.
