My brother is a sophisticated person I guess you could say. Every year I try to find a gift that he will enjoy. Last year, I bought him a nice wine set that included a cork screw etc. It came in a black leather, velvet lined box with a name plate for personalization. I also bought wine to go with it. It went over very well. This year, I'm stumped! Please help with any suggestions.

Wow.....what a thoughtful gift you gave last year!

Hard to top that, but is your brother sophisticated to the point of symphony, theatre, or opera tickets??? That's what comes to mind right off the bat if he enjoyed the wine set.

Please don't just give him money or a gift certificate. Nothing screams, "I just refuse to put any thought or effort into this at all" more than that. :-/
It sorta defeats the whole gift concept, imo. The whole purpose of gift-giving is to give something that someone would enjoy, but either wouldn't have thought of on their own, or wouldn't have bought for themselves. They can do that anytime.

You could try getting him two tickets to the theater. I have relative like that. I did the wine thing, and the next year I bought tickets. They thought it was a great Idea, they love it. If he has a hobby you might try something to do relative to that. My relative had a classic corvette. So I got a custom cover for it.

hmmm...thats a toughie. you could put together a scrapbook, buy a nice table lamp, get him a gift certificate for a night at a bed and breckfast, a nice music cd, a book, is he into chess? get him a brand new board. does he enjoy taking his dog for walks? gets him a fancy new leash. since i don't know your brother it is tough to know what he would like, but browse around and i'm sure you will find something great1 the wine idea was classy and neat!

Maybe you can find a post-modern art deco poster and have it framed. Maybe something in French. Always goes over good with the sophisticates.

Get him cash, not wrinkly but straight and crispy, and a humor card to go with it, and also write about how much you care about him., but don't do what Brown Sugar said. He won't think you know much about him if you tell him i didn't know what to get you!!!!
