No need to carry excess underwear because it is small and easy to wash in your hotel and it is cheap to buy such articles in most countries. However, always carry extras in your hand luggage for obvious reasons. On your return journey ensure all your underwear is dirty and sock smelly. This makes the experience of the customs staff more unpleasant when they search your bags looking for cigs, booze, recreational drugs etc. Which is what they deserve in most cases as they are mainly just raising revenue from people who are already over burdened with taxes and are gradually having all the fun squeezed out of their life by an over protective, bullying nanny state..

Yes, I always do.. just in case. My mum's answer is pack all your old underwear that you want to throw out. When you're done wearing them, throw them away. Another option is disposable panties. I don't wear them though, I think they're kind of uncomfortable. Socks aren't really a big matter, but if your feet smell, it may be advisable to take more pairs of socks. If your feet don't, then you don't need to bring so many.

Sorry, don't wear any underwear..very binding. I pack socks to match each outfit I'm going to need them for and then a few extra.

i always take double the amount of underwear and socks in comparison to the number of days im away, except in the case of lenghty stays (then i have access to washing machines and dont need the extra)

Yes. And, those always go on my carry-on luggage if I'm flying. You just never know. Same goes for socks.

ok this what i do i buy underpants for a dollar each and throw them away each day, i never have to worry about the wash. yes always take a few extra pairs in case of you know what happens,

not socks. i couldnt care less even if it stinks.
but underwear, yeah i do take lots and lots.
