I have a stupid MySpace account... who doesn't these days... anyways... I have photos up... and when people meet me.. they inevitably say "you are so photogenic" does this mean I look like hell in person? why do I keep getting that? why don't they say you look as pretty as your pictures?/ what do YOU mean when you tell someone they are photogenic?

I think it is a compliment, solely. If someone were to tell me that, I would take it as a compliment. If I were to tell someone that they take pictures well, I would mean it as a compliment. If the person is not being sincere, screw them. It's just a negative person with negative energy.

Yeah, some people seem to think being photogenic is a compliment but if you think about it, it's actually not. It's basically saying, "Hey, you look worse in real life!" I personally feel a little insulted when people tell me I'm photogenic.

If I were to tell someone that, it would simply mean that they come out pretty in pictures. I wouldn't necessarily be thinking that they look worse in real life but it would still mean that they do.

They are only saying that you look just like your pictures.
Actually, being photogenic means you take a great picture. I am not photogenic per se and I don't look all that bad.

Some people appear well on camera or film, where-as others do not. Not sure why this happens, just does. I think it is sort of profiling to a point. In other words to look nice to others.
A picture tells a thousand words, well if they did I would have nothing else to say, however - there is always a story in every picture if you look close enough.
Hope this helps .......

It's usually a compliment, but I suppose it could be an insult, like saying that because you're in a lot of pictures you're trying to get attention or are conceited or vain.

Well maybe they see your picture and think that you are way beautiful to be real and that means you are beautiful. Anyways, if these people havent met you this comment is simply illogical because they havent seen you in person and they cant compare your photos and you.

Yeah, I agree with the first person. It IS a compliment. When my sis was in piano class one time, the teacher told her that too. when somebody tells you that it's definitely a good thing and something that you should be proud of!! :)

No, its a compliment. It means you photograph well. Many people don't. Myself for example. I've never seen a photo of me that I think looks good.

Take it how you like...I would say it somebody with the intent of "you look better in the photo than you do in real life". But I am not everyone.
