I'm 46 and I've always had a severe sugar addiction but within the past year it's even gotten worse. If I see candy in someone's house, I'll put some in my purse when their not looking then feel guilty about it afterwards. Due to the calories, I'll skip a regular dinner or lunch in order to have some ice cream or candy. It's as if I get an actual physical rush from sugar that makes me feel high. Especially chocolate candy. I've tried to stop but I get bad cravings. This just isn't a "Wow I really love candy and chocolate" thing. This is a "I must have some every day or I'll go into withdrawal" thing. Can it be broken? I don't want to live my life being a slave to sugar. If I can get to a point where I don't crave it, how is that accomplished? Thank you in advance for your help, it's appreciated. Now excuse me while I go get a bowl of pudding!

The first step in order to break an addition is to admit you have one. You recognize that so the next step is you have to be serious and committed to it. You won't be able to stop doing something that is harmful to you if your not 100% about it. Do it cold turkey. Take it one day at a time. Get ride of all the candy and chocolate you have in the home, car and at work. Make sure to get the secret places you might hide stuff in case of craving emegency. Like a stash or purse. Make sure to have self control when your grocery shopping. Avoid the candy aisle and cookie aisle if that is possible. Your gonna go through withdrawal. Have to stay stong. Resist the temptation. When you get the erge to have candy distract yourself for 15minutes. The desire will go away. You can also drink a glass of water when every you get the craving. Trying exercising like stretching. If you know your not gonna be able to do it cold turkey take it one day at a time. Wein yourself off of the sweets. Slowly reduce the intake of sugar each day until you no longer need to have it. Either way you need to be committed to. Good luck too you.

Try replacing the sugary treats with fresh fruit nuts and things like pita bread and hummus or guacamole. The longer you go with out sugary stuff the less you should crave it. Diet soft drinks can still cause sugar cravings, though not sure you actually drink this. If your eating all that sugar and getting a headache it could be down to the sugar in 2 ways. sugar will dehydrate you and can cause a headache. Too much insulin is produced this actually causes you blood sugar to crash and again causes headache. Neither is good for you and long term the crashes could make you prone to diabetes. An occasional cookie or two is fine, but remember your metabolism may not alway stay as sharp as it is now and then eating 150 cals to much per day can start to pile on a stone a year. Many people find their metabolism slows as they age. some it starts as soon as they stop growing at around 16 to 18.

Try, Fruit and vitamin C which are great natural ways to handle this.

Your body is craving what you think is sugar but can easily be feed Vitamin C instead. Fruit is good because it has Vitamin C and is sweet to the taste because of the fructose.

Another idea is a thing of chewable Vitamin Cs - put your hand in that before the candy jar.

whenever you start to think of getting something sweet, get fruit instead. it might satisfy your hunger for sweetness. also if you can't help it, just take the sweet food and smush it around until it looks like a mess that you wouldn't even want to eat. also try to brush your teeth more often, so you have a clean fresh minty breath and you wouldn't want to mess it up. and gum is always better than candy, etc.

If your cravings are really that bad, you might want to have your doctor check you for diabetes. Thats one of the symptoms.
