If when you started working he stated that you can't speak your native language then I think he can. But as someone said before, it is a free country and we are allowed free of speech in any language we want. You do need to consider that other people may not understand what you are saying and they might feel ofended. It's up to you tough. I speak my native language at work if I feel comfortable and to the people who understand it ofcourse.

It's a no but situation. No you cannot be forbidden from using your native language. However if someone accuses you of speaking about them in it you could be fired for harassment and would have a hard time defending the accusation

In the USA you speak English when you are in public, native language with your family or others who speak the same.
I am from Russia and I can't understand why the Mexican people in America don't think they have to learn the language, I had to!

~~~I dont think it is right for anyone to "forbid" anyone to use the language they grew up with,,,,for example,,,I work with three wonderful girls from the phillipeans,,,,they are teaching me how to say "good morning" "good afternoon" "looks like rain" and so on,,I personally find it very interesting to learn of other culturs than my own,,,,I think your boss needs to lighten up a bit,,,,,
