Anything in excess is bad for you. The most recent study on water consumption shows that drinking too much water can prevent some vitamins from absorbing into your system as your body eagerly tries to flush itself of the excess weight.

Your best bet is to look at your urine everytime you use the bathroom. If it is almost clear with a slight yellowish tint, you are doing well. Dark yellow means you are dehydrated and clear means you are drinking too much.

Drinking at least a gallon of water a day is good, more is OK.
There might be a problem if you're drinking a lot of water under a compulsive type of urge, because excessive thirst is a symptom of high blood sugar, possibly diabetes. There are other symptoms of diabetes.
Ask Google: what are the symptoms of diabetes? If you have several symptoms given at that site, see a doctor for a check-up. A simple blood test will let the doctor know if you have a problem, and you'll feel better for knowing.
Don't be afraid to find out from qualified sources. Knowledge if power, and that goes a long way towards peace and good health.

Drinking to much can be bad but what you are drinking for a minimum should be your max.

Q. I am a runner and would like to know whether it is possible to drink too much water?

A. Yes, there is a condition known as "water intoxication." It is usually associated with long distance events like running and cycling. And it’s not an unusual problem. For example, water intoxication was reported in 18% of marathon runners and in 29% of the finishers in a Hawaiian Ironman Triathlon in studies published recently in the Annals of Internal Medicine and in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise respectively.

What happens is that as the athlete consumes large amounts of water over the course of the event, blood plasma (the liquid part of blood) increases. As this takes place, the salt content of the blood is diluted. At the same time, the athlete is losing salt by sweating. Consequently, the amount of salt available to the body tissues decreases over time to a point where the loss interferes with brain, heart, and muscle function.

The official name for this condition is hyponatremia. The symptoms generally mirror those of dehydration (apathy, confusion, nausea, and fatigue), although some individuals show no symptoms at all. If untreated, hyponatremia can lead to coma and even death.

Too much water is definitely bad for you but drinking it in regular amounts should be fine.

Your red blood cells will absorb the water that comes into your body. Therefore if you drink too much water you will feel like s*** and just want to sit down all day long. Common water saturation symptoms are relatively same to a fever, except you don't develop a high temperature.

3 liters of water can have different impacts on different people. Some people can handle that amount, some can't. It depends on how much your blood (and bladder don't forget!) can hold and what their breaking point is. Just make sure you limit yourself and don't go over the top with it.

That whole thing about drinking 8 glasses of water a day is based on a misunderstanding, and anyone that still quotes it is dumb. If it was really so bad to drink such a small amount of water then you would be dead by now. As long as you are not dehydrated then you are fine to carry on drinking what you are. The easiest way to test this is to look at the colour of your pee. It should be basically colourless or a very pale yellow, but if it is a dark yellow then you are not drinking enough.

No, it is not bad for you dear. It cleans your body system, and helpes you digest food well and also good for your skin complexion, because water gets ridof all the body toxins, which create stress physically/mentally. Some people drink water a lot for detox diet, and this is especially useful around the festive season, especialy we all tend to indulge ourselves for rich Xmas food and new years food. Also it is rececommended to drink a glass of water per each glass of alcohol consumption just to avoid bad hangover. So, I would say that the intake of 1.5l -2l of water per day would be ideal for a good fluid consumption. But 3 l should not be bad, unless there are some warnings given from doctor if you suffer from some illness. Sometimes people say there might be some bug in your stomach when drinking too much water, so if you are worried, it might be an idea that you'd consult with your doctor. I would not worry,,, but just in case.

In theory yes you can drink too much water, but it would take a LOT of water. Most likely the amount you are drinking is fine unless it is interfering with your sleep (having to get up in the middle of the night excessively). However, if you have excessive thirst it wouldn't hurt to see a doctor as it can be a sign of diabetes and other things.

Yes, there is a thing as too much water. We're actually learning about this in my science class right now. See if you have the right amount of water a day, then you will be healthy and replenished, but if you drink too much, it can mess up your blood pH. Your bloodflow will be disturbed, and you you'll start seeing many problems. So keep the water intake at a moderate level, or else you can harm yourself.

I can tell you, as a retired mental health practitioner, that I discovered that one can become psychotic by drinking too much water because it washes too many of your minerals from your body and upsets the ph balance of your body. I found this out from a client who eventually died from drinking excessive water, becoming psychotic, and fell to the floor as he began puking, and died from his own puke. It's a sad story because the young man was basically a nice guy, but he had a very mean friend who guided him down a very bad path that eventually killed him. God Bless you.
