Today my friends dog is ill with parvo and hopefully with the care and catchining this illness as quickly as they did there is a good chance the dog will survive. But another friend told here that children can get it and the dog will not survive. I have seen the dog and seen the medicine he is givin and how he is being taken care of is very good. My concern is children getting the disease which I never heard of before until now. Just want to is this true or false.

People cannot catch the canine parvo virus. I nursed a puppy back to health from the parvo virus, it was awful. Its a 50/50 shot that the dog will survive it. They don't always die.

Canine Parvovirus can not infect the child. Canine parvovirus affects dogs, wolves and foxes. It does not transmit to cats, birds, or humans; although each species has its own parvovirus.
Parvovirus B19 is best known for causing a childhood exanthem called "fifth disease" or "erythema infectiosum" but it can not spread to dogs and vice versa.
Please see the webages for more details on Canine Parvo Virus and Parvovirus B19.

Fifth disease is caused by infection with human parvovirus B19. This virus infects only humans. Pet dogs or cats may be immunized against "parvovirus," but these are animal parvoviruses that do not infect humans. Therefore, a child cannot "catch" parvovirus from a pet dog or cat, and a pet cat or dog cannot catch human parvovirus B19 from an ill child.
