Everyone is different. Some people need time to greive, others need to throw their emotions into another pet. There is no right or wrong, just what works for you.
I am truly sorry for your loss. Hang in there.

The right time to get a dog is when you are ready. Some people get one right away while others wait a year or years. It is an individual choice. Getting a new puppy/dog can take your mind off of the recent loss. Just do not look for one that was just like your past dog because you will end up being disappointed.

I am so sorry for your loss..If you think you are ready then it isn't too soon to get another dog. Although the one you get will not replace the one you lost.
My dog went to dogie heaven on the 3rd. When I first found out he wasn't gonna make it I didn't want another dog. But as the shock worn off I did want and ended up adopted one from the shelter. I actually adopted her before he was put down, but I didn't pick her up until after he was gone.
Why not go to the shelter and see what they have you will know which one was place there for you..
I went looking for a puppy and adopted a 5year old instead.
Good Luck....

Loosing your dog is really one of the roughest things there is...I am so sorry for you..I just lost mine 3 weeks ago and still grieve, but suspect I will for a very long time.
You are 17, about to enter adulthood on your own. What are your plans...college? If so, who is going to take care of the new dog? Going into the work force? Who is going to be with your doggie during the day? Dogs really do not like being alone...think carefully about what you are doing, for your actions will affect another's well being...that of your new dog. good luck

No...I had a poodle for 13 years and I swore I would never get another animal cuz it hurt so much. Well a few months after her death I open my front door and a 7 month old cat walked right into my house.I don't like cats but my son beg me to keep her.So I did.She does almost all the things my dog did. Kinda freaky. So if a kid can tell me to keep a animal then I can tell u to get another one.Plus enjoy it.

There is no time set to get another dog after the lose of one. When you are ready to have another dog, you will know and get one. That is the right time.
Sorry for your lose and good luck with a new pup.

Not if your heart is ready. I don't think I could have a new baby that soon after losing one of my loves but then I also think that it's better for some people to have a new puppy to devote their time to.

It really depends about how you feel about having another pet around the house.
