Well, as a non smoker and a mother and married to a non smoker it would help decrease the amount of smoke that we all breath in at a closed in public place (it's illegal in my state to smoke anywhere inside, but is still legal to order your dunkin donuts while puffing on a cig in other states). I don't think it will help people quit though. I think it has more to do with people like me and my husband who don't smoke, to cut down on the 2nd hand smoke around us. The law was passed years ago in NY (my state) while I was working the bars. Many many people said that when the ban takes effect I would never see them again. Guess what, the same day the law was passed they were back in the bar drinking and stepping out every once in a while to light up. It hasn't killed the bar industry out here at all. Not one iota.

I think that a lot of smokers make excuses, like calling us Nonsmokers PC (which isn't the case, we just don't like to smoke and prefer not to be forced to breathe it in), they say that we are impeding their rights as a smoker (what about my rights as a nonsmoker?), that they should feel free to smoke where ever they choose no matter how it effects me, my husband and my son. They make these excuses because they are addicted and addicts will make any excuse to do their drug.

Since the smoking ban has passed in NY it has been a lot easier for me to enjoy my expeience in bars. The smokers have no problem stepping out and returning when they are done. But going to the mall it just means that I have to push my way through smokers that gather right outside the entry and exit door in order to get in and out, which I think is very rude of them.

It's idiotic and it's TOO MUCH government.

I DON'T think smoking bans will help society at all. Some people WANT to smoke... and some people (ME) actually LIKE second-hand smoke.

It probably won't help anyone stop smoking.

The entire smoking ban thing is due to very rude smokers who'd light up in places where non-smokers couldn't escape (ie, airplanes, hotels, meetings, classrooms, cars, family reunions, etc) then get all sh*tty when someone complained. Ask anyone old enough to remember smoking on airplanes -- it was AWFUL!!!

It's another case of people losing their freedom because some abused it.

It matters when we die. Sure, someone could be an atheist and have a wonderful life. and someone could be a christian and have a tragic life. What matters is what happens to those people when they die. Atheist would go from happy life to suffering for eternity. A christian would go from tragic life, to living in Heaven because of their faith and endurance. And no, I'm not saying that all atheists have good lives, etc. I'm just using an example.

Smoking have being proved that is hazardous to people health, also 2nd hand smoking is as bad as smoking itself. Studies have show that smoking is too expensive for our society, health and economical and this is why is have to be ban from the society. Smoking is a nasty habit that you will know is nasty when you quit smoking, I know because I used to smoked and now I know the different.

The US is in the forefront of this ban. As it is with the forefront of anything, there will be pandemonium. Smoking needs to stop. It just needs to stop, because way too many people suffer (have suffered) from the side effects of it. Smoking ban will probably hurt restaurants and other facilities where smoking was permitted, but it will only be temporary, and then everything will be back to normal. Smokers have learned not to smoke in airplanes, in restaurants and on the job, and they also will adapt to the extended smoking ban. One day we will recognize that it was for the good of everybody. Also the healthcare costs will go down for all of us.

Smoking bands are just infringement of a persons rights
Freedom of choice is being stopped and spit on by the Anti-smoking Nazi's and fascists is what they are
Anti-smoking Nazi's are cowards if they were not they they would make tobacco illegal and not try to suspend the right to use a legal product
Hypocrites and cowards is what they are

People are going to do what they want to do. Smoking is bad for you and second hand is even worse. Alot of people now are thinking about there health and kids. If smoker's can go with out it for a few hours, than why not all day.

No it wouldn't be. You wanna lower health care cost? Address the worse sources of poor air quality and carbon monoxide.

Manufacturing, and energy plants. automotive exhaust, and the like. Especially in places like California where the over development and over consumption of it's population poses a much greater threat to daily well being than 2nd hand smoke ever will.

Well, it certainly makes it more difficult for smokers to indulge their habit, and the air is a lot clearer for the nonsmokers. I don't know that there should be all out bans on smoking in all public places. I think smoking should be permitted in bars, and outdoor sporting functions - at least within certain area.

When smoking is banned, it will save lives. Because when you see somebody smoking you will now know that they are on fire, need help, and you can hose them down and save them.
