Because kids would try to tell their parents the E stood for excellent. So the school systems caught on and removed it.

It did but because E meant a failing grade or failure it slowly came to be called an F

That's a really good question! Maybe all the letters stood for something? Like F stands for failing? I don't know but now you have me wanting to do my research. If I find the answer I will let ya know...

when i lived in las vegas, my jr. high used "f" as a faling grade. when i moved to michigan, i was confused when people got upset for getting an "e". i later learned that an "e" is equal to and "f". they just what them all to be in alphabetical order (a, b, c, d, and e).

Most likely because E is often used on report cards to mean "Excellent".

That's not necessarily true. I go to Ohio state university (go bucks!) and e is the equivalent of an f there.

Because it would be ABCDE but E is the worst which is failing so they use F for fail

e is for effort, and f is for failing. I dont think there is a fine line between effort and failing.
