OpenOffice is an excellent program. This offers a Word Processor similar to that of Microsoft Word. This program also will open files associated with Microsoft Office such as .doc files, etc. Amazingly, it's free. It's a fairly large file at 93MB, but definitely worth the download. Not only does it include the word processor, it also includes a spreadsheet program, a presentation manager, and a drawing program. Here is the link to directly download OpenOffice.

One good option would be AbiWord, a free open-source word processor designed to work with Windows. Here's a web link:

If you are running Windows, you already have one on your computer. It is called Wordpad. Should be under the Accessories in the Start Menu.

open office has a pretty good open source word processor as well as other office type appications. it takes a little bit to get used to it, but it works as well as comercial software...www.openoffice.org
